This beginners course has been specifically designed and tailored for those eager to learn drawing and painting techniques, while developing essential skills and establish an artistic foundation.

Whether you’ve never picked up a pencil before or are wanting to refine your techniques, this workshop offers a welcoming environment to learn and explore.

The fee includes everything:•


  • All art mediums

  • A variety of papers

  • Morning or afternoon tea

Throughout this 3-hour workshop, you will engage in hands-on exercises that cover:

  • Fundamental drawing techniques, including line work, shading, and composition. You will learn HOW to observe and capture the world around you, translating your observations into sketches. You will use pencil, charcoal and oil pastels.

  • The Elements of Art—line, shape, form, space, texture, value, and colour for you to gain a deeper appreciation for how these elements interact to create artworks. You will use collage, pencil and oil pastels. 

  • Introduction to Watercolours – exploring the characteristics of this medium and its interaction with paper. You will create some take away greeting cards and bookmarks using watercolours, pen and wash.

Each exercise is thoughtfully created to help you develop your knowledge, build your skills and develop your unique style.
You will be encouraged to explore and express and above all, avoid perfection.

  1. Julie’s Studio is above the Golf Club building at Quamby Estate (see photo).

  2. Park your car in the car park on the left as you drive in.

  3. There are 17 stairs to the studio.

  4. The bathroom is at the back of the Golf Club.
